18 September 2024 marked another milestone for TCHS as we held our 3rd Annual Dinner to celebrate our friendship and collaborative efforts with members and collaborators. This year, we selected the South Central Community Family Service Centre (SCC FSC) as the venue, and invited Laura Poh, Director, as the guest of honour.
The evening started off with TCHS President Catherine Loke welcoming members and guests, and introducing game designers Chan Kar Yan, Dingal Lim, Aretha Low and Wang Siyang who were also there to showcase our game Resourcity.
Our guest of honour, Laura Poh, then shared with us the SCC FSC’s mission to bring about social transformation by, among other things, assisting vulnerable families to buy HDB flats, and enabling the next generation to develop to their full potential. Community gardeners Kendy Siew, Mr Lee and Mr Koh then gave us a tour of their 10-year-old community garden, proudly sharing with us some of the turmeric harvested a few days ago.
We then moved to the cosy Cafe/Lounge area where we enjoyed a delicious, wholesome home-cooked dinner of rice, chicken rendang, sambal vegetables, begedil and sayur lodeh, catered by Masriyana, one of the community’s home-based chefs.
A TCHS dinner would not be complete without a farm-to-table dish of fresh garden salad with a nutrient boost of moringa, butterfly pea flowers and red button ginger harvested from the M.a.D. Garden@Winstedt a few hours prior to the event.
Members and guests also contributed dessert and drinks, most notably homemade kombucha by Razak Salleh and homemade soursop leaf tea, also from the M.a.D. Garden@Winstedt.
As the event drew to a close, all of us washed up our own plates, bowls, cups and cutlery, and pitched in to clean up.
In the cool of the evening, we all left with warm bellies, warm hearts and renewed friendships.
