SUTD Capstone Showcase 2024 – Resourcity (12 & 13 April 2024)

resourcity is a board game designed under the SUTD Capstone Programme 2023/24 by students Dingal LimJoanne NgTao SihanWang SiyangChan Kah Yan & Aretha Low to the Design Brief from The Circle for Human Sustainability (TCHS), under the mentorship of TCHS members Catherine LokeKuan Chee YungRicky ChanBige Tunçer and Larry Yeung.

The purpose of the game is to educate the public on energy and resource management in an urban environment, through a fun and impactful way of learning by simulated experience, which then empowers us to proactively make lifestyle changes so that we can live in an ecologically responsible way – which is aligned to TCHS’s Vision and Mission.

The students were first tasked to do research on Energy and Resources needed in our modern lives, Complexity Theory and Governing the Commons.  Next, they were tasked to do research on different types of games, and then to design a game that is not only educational but also interesting and enjoyable to play over and over again.  The game also had to be family-friendly so that children can participate.

Not only did the students rise to the challenge of a very difficult brief, but they delivered a well-resolved and polished product which captured the essence of Energy LimitsSystems ThinkingFeedback Loops and Managing the Commons.

Our thanks also go to SUTD Capstone Instructors Professor Cheung Ngai-Man, Professor Cyrille Jégourel and Dr. Susan Wong.

TCHS intends to conduct workshops in the coming months using resourcity as an educational tool.

Do follow us on LinkedIn, and email us at contact@tchs-global.org if you would like us to conduct a workshop for your organisation, or if you would like to be kept informed of opportunities to play the game.
